Hello everyone,

I have been thinking about learning how to do tape and jointing. I have been plastering/painting for 3 years, but would like to know what tools I would need to starting working on sites and which ones I can do without
thanks in advance. tom

Welcome aboard Tom
As you have been Plastering, you will have most of the basics already, ie trowel, hawk, small edging trowels, corner trowel.
What you need is some jointing knives, I think most people just have a 4" and 6" and possibly an 8", a corner roller http://www.belmoretools.co.uk/acatalog/Corner_Rollers.html
and a sanding pole (if still permitted) and a useful time saver would be a corner flusher and pole, instead of the corner trowel

Brian has about covered everything you need to get started.

If you like it and intend to carry on I would still buy a taping kit, however they are expensive so if you intend building a collection of taping tools as separates then I would begin with a pump, handle and set of flat boxes, then a corner roller and box with angle head, then another pump with gooseneck and a taping gun. This will build up your kitty allowing you to splash out on kit you could manage without, namely a nail spotter and electric drywall sander.

Check ebay regularly for 2nd hand tools, guys such as myself are giving up the trade with alarming regularity these days.
