How should the brake be set on this taper? I had no ratchet noise at all and now i can see the brake thing and how it may work.
i dont know excactly which way it goes though, its a long straight pin and it wasnt makin any contact with the cogs so whats wrong

I call that "broken in"
as long as it isn't jammed and still works otherwise.

Brake? Do you mean the zzzzzzz noise you get when stringing a tape and it stops the plunger from slipping back down the tube? You can put a slight bend in the pin so it makes contact with the drive wheel on the left hand side or replace it by pulling the old one out with pliers and shove another one in. Its a 2 minute job.

EDIT. Just noticed you said Columbia and maybe this is different from the tapetech design. Have a look at the Columbia schematic Ive uploaded and find parts CT15 and CT16. Hope this helps.

Hi Blones

Best thing is to have a quick watch of the columbia video - link below at 2 mins into the 8 minute video it shows you the clicker brake adjustment.

If still not working that well give me a shout and i will have our service engineer call you and talk you through it on the phone no probs.

there is an adjustment below the head and above the gooser needle if you have the gun facing you, which controls the drag on the clicker. basically roll your hand over the teeth until you are belo0w it and you will find a bar. if you push it all the way back it totally releases the tension, bring it forward and it should solve your problem.
