I have no problems with the old, worn and battered regular tapetech boxes which still make me money. Can anyone convince me to upgrade to the power assisted/easy clean models? I want to hear some first hand experiences here rather than listen to a salesmans scripted pitch or read from another tool website. You guys use these tools every day and I appreciate an honest answer.

I managed to borrow a 12" box a few years ago. I think they are pretty good as it kind of does away with the push and drag at the same time where you have to apply an even pressure. You just drag it making sure the wheels keep movng and out the mud comes, I swear there was less running back to the pump as well, maybe they are larger than the standard model. The pressure plate is spring loaded and springs are in a slightly diffenrt position to a normal box.
Very good and they get the seal of approval from me.:fing02:

i have a 12" power assist box which i purchased last year . it does take a bit of getting used to but it is a little easier on your arms once you get used to it

The Power Assist boxes do take a bit of getting used to, you need to mix the compound slightly thicker than for regular boxes so it doesn't ooze out when the springs apply positive pressure.

If you are getting a "beard" of compound on the front of the box then the compound will need too be thickened slightly.

The key thing with the boxes is to remember that you have to use the wheels to turn the pressure on and off, so the blade has to be put in the boards first then engauge the wheels and then take the wheels off the board to stop the compound.

When running the box you will need to sweep off the boards a little earlier than normal to allow the compound to stop coming out.

The most important thing is to forget everthing you know and stop pushing ;-)

If anyone wants to talk through the use of the Power Assit boxes and some impartal advice feel free to give me a call on 07854 795 225

they hold about 20% more compound than regular boxes and open right out at the back to clean.
