has anyone heard of a web site called "rated people", you pay them then they send you info on possible jobs which you have to pay for, then you bid against other trades to get the job!what a joke why not have us all fight each other in a cage for work make it more interesting

I wouldn't entertain it. It's just people making money out of you, NOT making any. F**k 'em!

to be fair this is a genuine one! have friends and family (decorators) who do very well from rated people, it does cost a bit to buy the contcts but if you price them right you will get work. If youre in a fairly populated area with few tradesman listed you will get plenty to price.

I agree buying work In this trade (drylining) it's very rare you can buy any 'good' work, my brother in law and father in law are both painters and decorators and good ones at that, they have always had work up until a few months ago and things just died a death!
Same for may others.

their main work was always private customers not sites and builders like most of you guys on here.

so what do you do when work dries up? curl up and die? advertise in local rag? leaflet drop? Or buy a few jobs! makes sense to me to keep in work ! not saying its the way to run a business and get work forever but speaking with father in law he has had countless jobs after initial rated people job (family and friends of customer recommendations etc)

I think rated people were one of the first 'buy a job' sites to start up, even thought of running one myself!

Ive got no links with them at all but from what family members say its put a few quid in the back burner when things get tight

Just to add - this inst just happening on a small scale - im starting to notice more and more tenders going electronic bidding, mainly for contracts over 50 k, have seen a couple recently where you have to register your interest and pay to be part of the tender process - so buying work happens on all levels!

my father in law used for doubleglazing and they are expensive but you can view before you buy which is a good thing. worth a try if work is quiet.
