Lads, I stumbled on this forum by accident. Some of the help provided by contributers is invaluable. I am a Painter & Decorater by trade and have carried out taping jobs on & off for many moons. I have always taped by hand but decided to bite the bullet and purchase some automatic tools. I have a "Tapeworm" bazooka and the rest of my tools are "Speedtape Pro". I have seen the video on "you tube" recently which pretty much ripped the goldblatt flatbox to pieces and have now, much to my disapointment discovered that they are one and the same thing although there are are some details different. The main problem is the amount of pressure that is required on the boxes to produce an even finish. I have thinnned the "prolite" which helps but if I am to use this every day I will end up with arms like Popeye.
Any suggestions?

Hi sold stacks of speedtape pro since its release over here and yes it is the goldblatt G2 just in blue! ]
we have had a few issues with the flatbox rubbers being too tight when new (this can be the same with most brand new boxes) but seems to be the style of the rubber used on the speedtape pro.

Couple of suggestions try soaking the flatbox for an hour before you use it in warm (not boiling) water after a few times it will supple up enough to make the box run a bit smoother than it is now.

if you are unable to do this then unfirtunatley it is a waiting game for the box rubber to loosen over time.

Stick with it though the are a good box and will save you time and make you more £££'s

Thanks for that, I will try the warm water. I had given the rubbers a squirt with WD40 which also helped a bit but I dont know if I should have. Would this harm the rubbers?

Hi Guys. A wee bit advice regarding your Speedtape Pro boxes.

The back plate which your rubbers go around now sit in a hinge (if you take the rubbers off and open the plate as far as it goes, you will see it). This was designed to stop material leaking from that area.
Now if you take the rubbers off and spray this hinge with 3 in One or WD40 and wiggle the plate by hand a few times, it will loosen it off. Again this is due to newness and if your finding the boxes slightly tight, this simple procedure will make a difference.

Regarding using WD40, the rubbers are made from a new improved polymer which doesn't corrode like older box rubbers.

Cheers, I will do as you suggest, I take it that "wiggle" is the technical term :-) I did find that soaking the box in warm water helped but this seems a better option. Are you saying that spraying the rubbers with WD will not affect the longevity?

It won't affect longevity on Speedtape Pro rubbers, other manufacturers I can't speak for. I double checked just to make sure.

And have you ever tried asking your wife to oscillate it, just a little bit!

speedtapepro, apart from price whats the differance between seedtape pro and tapetech thinking of buying a new autotaper i have a tapetech just now and dont fancy spending 1000+ on a new gun,so convince me to buy speedtape and whats the differance between gold and blue speedtape tools???

Big bonus the tools offer is the backup service currently available in the uk.
