Ceilings = length x breadth of room.
Walls = measure the total length + breadth of the room.
Multiply x2 if it has 4 walls then multiply this total by ceiling height.

    For example if a rectangular room is 4m x 5 m at 2.4m height.
    Ceiling 4 x 5 = 20m2 then add
    Walls 4 + 5 x 2 = 18 and multiply x ceiling height @2.4m = 43.20m2
Add both together, and the total is 63.20m2 X whatever your rate is. If you're American then you'll want to measure this in square feet.

Do not remove doors, windows and plug sockets from your measure like Ive heard some tightass contractors and QS's suggest and don't forget to add corner beads.

I have a makita lazer measure, They are great for measuring things fast, saves using the tape.
