Fish eyes are air in the mix that bubbles up and pop leaving craters in the surface, usually more likely if applied too thick or over an existing coat that hasn't dried properly and hot mud is fast set. Hot mud is generally a yank term that gets used, and mud is also joint cement. Betting the guys in NZ have terms to confuse us too, I heard the term stopper from a guy i know from Auckland.

bubble through the coat get you now.. dont really get them sometimes on odd flex but lett it dry and go over it again..
can always mind when apprentice was told ye could mix some something through it to stop the bubbles..cant remember what the hell it was..
premixed velvet is good for no getting those bubbles and has a kind of lemon smell through it dont know if it has it mixed through it. to much hassle tbh let dry and touch it up.

Let it dry for an hour after the top coat, and you can rub your hand like a sanding pole over the bubbles,busting/flatening them.Probably gets rid of 70-90% of them......hey on these prices what do you expect....lol

yes amestaper we are all known as stoppers, and i don't know of the local term for fish eyes it is probably not printable, and your right, you mainly get it with air drying compounds either too thick over green (set but wet) work or if your patching and putting a finish over an impervious surface like paintwork. I leave for 10mins or so then lightly pass a knife over to kill them.

Bubbles is happening more & more often for us just because there isnt the volume of work that there used to be, before the recession you would take a house up to a stage & let it dry whilst working in another, when were working one of us box's and the other cleans off with a 14'' blade this takes most bubbles out
