Welcome to the forum fife taper.
Things will get better. Builders are usually the first industry out of any recession and a few of our members said they're staying busy.

What part of the Kingdom are you from? If you don't mind me asking.

Hi fife taper, has McEwans laid all their tapers and painters off?
Asking because they're based about 5 miles from me and I'm hoping this isn't a sign of worse things to come.
Thanks for the introduction and welcome aboard.

    Default mcewan dec

no just downsizing.paid off 20 men i think.painters and tapers.everyone else on the books got put on a 3 day week starting 2day.bad news all around.good luck to you.think they going 2 lose a lot more men though lot of people not happy with 3 days pay. lot of the men wanted there redundancy money instead but would have cost them a lot to pay of the long timers so trying to force them out instead no cash to pay if they leave of there own accord.least that wat the men left behind think.

    Default Hello

Hi Fife Taper, can understand how you feel, I was made redundant in June last year and managed to secure another job which dried up in October last year. For the first time in my life I had to sign on which is dreadful! Got another job in March which lasted six weeks, then the work dried up, but things looking up, hopefully I may have a start soon, so keep your chin up and enjoy the fishing.

I heard McEwan went into voluntary liquidation last night. Not looking good is it? They were one of the biggest painting firms in Edinburgh.
