    Default hand jointers

reading this forum I've noticed its all about the machines are there any hand jointers on here.
House bashing in my area its mainly all I see and only come across machine jointers on commercial stuff were it normally warrants it, or do you just finish off with your boxes, just interested.

Alright matey! I use my boxes to 2nd and 3rd coat, 1st coat by hand, internals in with a mud head and rol-plow and topped off with an angle head. All beads done by hand and non 90 degree corners. I'm thinking about going over to paper taping for everything once I get hold of an Apla-tech bazooka.

Hi lads, all flats and internals with bazooka and only externals by hand. I bed in and first coat at the same time and use the 10 & 12in boxes to finish. Internals bedded in with roller and cleaned up with the corner head and then finshed with the corner finisher-not all in the same day of course!

machines are just as effective in housing, probably more so as there are generally alot more internals. If you decide to pick them up I garuantee you will at least double your productivity. Everything from the floor, flat joints in one pass, install & cut tape and apply joint cement in 1 pass, finish both sides of internals in one pass. The tools should pay for themselves within 6 weeks, whats not to like? if you ever want to move over get in touch we have some great specials on NorthStar at the moment, things are a bit slow on the sales side, a good time for deals!

crack filler could i just ask you how long it takes you by hand to put on 2 rolls of papertape on internals,i take it your goodself is a hand taper??now i reckon someone with a gun and roller and corner finisher can do it in about 1 to 2 hours,me personaly if i didnt have a tape machine i wouldnt tape, just my opinion.

    Default hand job

i tape by hand, although i have gone over to a mud tube and internal finisher over the past four years or so. saves time and gives better results i think. time wise, once i have rolled out and creasted the paper tape it takes me about forty five min to put the tapes in the internals on a regular hight normal (site) house. an hour or so for four bed. tried boxes but always found i got pin holes on my joints and could not be done with all that fussing. was great on the odd time the first coat got to dry compleatly and not just set. i use two sizes of curved blade, 11" for coating up (biger curve), 12" for topping (very shallow curve). dont know and box tapers who can turn out a good job any faster on their own...

have you used an autotaper thomas?surely a gun saves time as it applies finish, cuts and creases tape before you roll now with a tube you still have to mesure cut tape and crease then apply finish to internals then apply tape before you roll, as far as boxes go did you let 10"dry before you finish with 12"because not letting it dry can cause piting(pinheads)if you get pinheads with 10"its beacause your boxes arent set properly not giving a big enough crown, and ive yet to see a hand taper that left a neater or quicker job than someone that can use a autotape set properly.

Legend the problem is I live in my own taping bubble and rarely bump into other tapers to compare what we are all doing good or bad so stuck in my ways a bit, I recently got some "better than ever" tools for the internals so about 1hr 20 to put 2 rolls up and 20 minutes top them. With house bashing never needed to go faster as would be working myself out of work not many sites needing more than 2 to 3 houses a week. But I am getting older so maybe need to look at other things to help the old bones.

Thomas Savage good to see another hand jointer even in my prime I did'nt turn out as much as you do must be joined up different lol, I use the curved 11in curved for the first coat too they work well.

i had the rep from prem tools show me an automatic taper but he was pants using it. know some one on the same firm as me who is well nifty with one but its all the pumping and cleaning it, faffing about. lot to go wrong and get frustrated with. maybe one day... like i said in my post hardly get the chance to allow all to dry fully, to be honest. its all one day compleation. each too their own... all thoses boxes migh be quicker than most but i aint no most.
