    Default hello tapers

hi there just found this site and must say its full of great ideas hints tips for everybody to the novice taper to the seasoned pro.great to know there are people out there who put as much thought and effort into their work as i like to think i do. Always thought i was the only person who couldnt sleep properly at night cause they had to tape over shit boarding the following day! Am from and working in south of ireland and i dont know how things are over the water but here its pretty bleak.rates are miserable and work very scarce sometimes i wonder why bother to get out of bed these days for the pittance i recieve.we had a big boom here for a while but those days are well and truly gone. Still im hanging in there at this stage what else would i do?! Glad to know there are many more like me out there and look forward to getting to know ye!Great site!

Default Keep your head up my friend !!!

Here in N.California is ugly also.
Contractors and drywall finishers alike are looking for work as well. We use all the automatic tools out here ...does Ireland ? what about spray texture ? or hand tools ?
I'm a drywall finisher instructor at are apprenticeship school here in Hayward Ca. It's good to know that our industry has reach different parts of the world. Considering it's only been around for 70 years.
What about your self . How long have you been in the business ?

Looking forward from hearing from you.

Welcome aboard happytaper. Good to see you.
Things are much the same this side of the water as they are in Ireland and elsewhere in the world. I dont know anybody thats churning out production like they were two or three years ago but I think we are over the worst of it. Just a gut feeling I have, because the jobs Im being asked to tender for are getting back to the same size that I was always grateful for in the boom years.

    shame about the prices though.
Your messages are really important to us

maybe i should pop over to california and brush up on my skills and get ready for the upturn!Taping is now very common in ireland replacing much of the traditional skimcoat. Tradesmen here use a variety of machine and spray but most is done by hand. Machines that spray skimcoat on the wall leaving it to be polished are a must although still uncommon. taping machines are a must for houses or large scale commercial jobs with big runs but most full time machine tapers i know have not had a job worthy of even taking them out and setting up! We had a big boom built too many houses-200000 lie empty lots of commercial buildings lie idle waiting to be fitted out! As amestapes says work seems to be coming on a bit but the prices are terrible. Things can only get better!
