    Default Tapetech Pump help

    Real-Debrid

I've just bought a load of 2nd hand kit and the pump is pretty old to be honest Taptech Pre easy clean ( no quick release for cleaning ) Anyway i'm new to machine taping and the pump doesn't want to pump , the arm moves but doesent draw the disc up from the bottom , any ideas is something broke or am i just not doing something right ? I've uploaded some pics of the old lady . . .

It could be that the plastic disc at the bottom of the pump is stuck to the bottom of the pump. Use either a nail or screw driver and gently poke through where the holes are at the bottom end releaseing the plastic disc , put the pump in pail of water and try to pump the water through the pump . If the works keep the pump full of water and transfer the pump to a pail of joint cement and start to pump out the water and this should get the pump working. If this fails maybe someone has used fast set and this is not a quick release pump, this might be your problem.

I hope you didnt pay too much for that, looks extremely well used. it is worth oiling all the rubber parts (bike chain oil/vegetable oil will even work in a pinch) if the pump has been sitting a while the rubbers can shrink which causes them to be to small to create the seal to pump. I would also reccomend having a good look over whtever else you bought to see whether it is really serviceable or you may be forever fixing it and changing and replacing parts, if the taper looks anything like the pump you may be in for some pretty hefty parts/repair costs.

Bit of a mixed bag really the pump is the only thing that is old , Tapetech taper and boxes all in good working order , brand new Northstar corner head , tapetech roller all handles etc for 650 . I'll soak the pump in hot water for a bit tonight and try to move the disc , if not i'll have it appart by bed time : )

This schematic file and user manual from the download section may be handy to print out and keep. They are for the EZ clean version but the guts inside still work the same.

Your messages are really important to us
...but not important enough to employ a sufficient number of support staff to answer them.

Cheers Ames , found the schematics on the Ames website funny enough , stripped the pump down to find that the nut that holds everything on the piston arm wasn't there , dunno what had happend as the pump was dirty inside so he hadn't left it off after cleaning : ) . Anyway took both ends off cleaned the entire lot, lubed it and put the piston back togeter ( using Schematics to get the sequence of parts right ) salvged a bolt from some hedge clippers for the piston end . Bobs your Uncle works like a dream .. well happy

can't complain about a set of ames taping tools for 650.00, if all you have to do is give the pump a good clean. you should have that paid for in a few weeks working
