Default make the main contractors pay

    drywallschool.com

day after day i hear of contractors stiffing subbies its hard enough to get by these days without busting your bollocks for a contractor to tell you he cant pay till he sells a property
    whos buying anyway
and what the legal stance not a leg to stand on small claims court 2 grand paid to you over 5 years is not much good to anyone
high court by the time youve paid your legal fees youll be out of business anyway

Be lucky to get money upfront for any job over 5 grand? but must admit never asked ! one thing to make sure when working for main contractor of any size is to set out pay dates and if possible get money for materials on site before large contract.

And retentions - well just add the retention to your price as theres always a chance you won't get it for a few years !!

Or he could be lulling you in to a false sence of security! Easy to say "no problem, send me the bill" but it is how long it sits on the desk being avoided.
