View Full Version : covering varnish
Hi can anyone tell me what the best primer is to coat a over a varnished staircase that has to be painted white( looks like it was factory sprayed) many thanks
An aluminium primer would probably be your best bet, Dulux Trade make a very good one. Alternatively a product called Zinsser Bin would also do the trick, it's expensive ( about £75 a gallon) but one of the best products on the market for blinding out previously painted surfaces or staining and you can recoat in 45 mins. Use throwaway brushes though cos it's shellac based and the clean up is meths. hope this helps.
I would go for Zinnsser B-I-N as well, really does work well on varnished surfaces. Doesnt scuff up under sanding either.
