Social networking sites
Some guys I know can and have made money and work contacts from it, however they are mainly PC and internet based professions like IT or software.
I would appreciate your experience as workers in the construction industry about Twitter and other social networking sites such as Ecademy and Linkedin (which I have yet to try) and if they worked for you.
Personally, I have never made a penny from it and think I could be missing the point. I value my time highly and dont see the relevance in telling the world I have just run myself a warm bath, put the kettle on, stood in dogsh!t, having a pee and stuff like that...if you know what I mean.Your messages are really important to us
...but not important enough to employ a sufficient number of support staff to answer them.

This could be an interesting. It's still 2-0 for now to the unconvinced among us and I definitely should have started a poll with this one.
I've renamed this thread from Twitter to Social networking sites so it doesn't clash with another off topic thread that was created this morning.

IMO - a site for needy people who have lacked parental attention and have to justify their existence.

Love it or loathe it, I've decided to step into the unknown and create a Twitter account which will be used to find the latest taping trade gossip, scandal, lies, tools, and god knows what else from around the globe .......
If you're interested, you can find us at http://twitter.com/tapingforum

Facebook. OK but not my first web visit of the day
facebook has gotten me jobs, even more than Kajiji. actually the website i list was made to receive clickthru's from facebook. I imagine it could be earning more business if i actually wanted more, but since i am 3 week ahead now with work, i don't want to be any busier. facebook's problem as a work generator is that it's 'marketplace' has been hidden off in a corner a few clicks from the homepage

Social Networking - much bigger than you think - made me plenty of dough over the last couple of years - think of it as a silent FREE salesman - making a huge spiders web that always ends up back to you !
Any business either solo one man band or multi national can all benefit from telling the world about their business and how to contact them - do this on all the social networking sites and let them do the rest !
Must admit it has immediate effect for my other interests that are web based and direct sales from them - but for construction trade it is still and enormous bonus for free promotion. The Uk's No 1 Drylining & Plastering Tool Store
