Default Police ANPR cameras and Direct Line.

Got a tug from the police today. Was out with my wife and daughters, in my wifes car and was followed and subsequently stopped by the police. The officer asked my wife if it was her car, then went on to tell her that she had no insurance. She knew this was incorrect as her insurance automatically renews in August and all direct debits are up to date etc., as she checks her bank online regularly. The officer called Direct Line who informed him that my wifes policy was all ok. Turns out that Direct Line haven't updated the police database with her current details. Chances are that she's not the only one. Needless to say, Direct Line are in for a bollocking tomorrow when their customer services opens.

Will she will get a discount for her inconvenience next year?

Insurance companies won't give you anything.

There was something about this on watchdog. Insurance companies not updating the database quick enough.

I've heard of this happening before. A colleague left the site to go home and got pulled over by cops saying the same thing, no insurance, blah blah. Turns out it was Kwik Fit insurance and they hadn't updated the database either. Cops said it was about the 20th car they'd pulled for no insurance who all had valid policies! Big waste of time for both drivers and cops

Over here in New Zealand it is not law to have insurance. Bit of a nightmare if some goon in a big v8 bumps you. Pays to have fully comp for your self.
