Welcome to our site Krpcristi. You're our first member from Romania.

The forum is for everyone in the drywall finishing trade, no matter where you're from in the world. You can all have your say and everyones point of view is as valid as everyone elses.

    But the question is this
Construction company prefer to work with foreigners or they don't care?
In response to your question. Some companies do prefer to use foreign nationals and it can create a bit of heated discussion between the winners and losers from this open door policy the UK government has in place. Basically I think it comes down to profit in the decision for tenders from the building contractors. They aren't obligated to give the job to any one person, or company and the cheapest quote unfortunately speaks volumes in the current financial climate. Whether you like it or not, thats how capitalism works.

Personally, I am impartial either way as it is out of my control and I can't do anything about it. I only know the rules and play the game to the best of my ability, hoping to survive and keep the wolves from the door like millions of others.

I have shared a workplace with guys from countries in Eastern Europe such Poland, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic. In my experience they are honest, polite, hardworking, and prepared to try their hand at anything. A good work ethic indeed.

Thanks for your post, which I am sure will get a reaction. Take care and hope to see you back soon.

    Hello krpcristi, welcome aboard!

You're right. Quality counts and its good to take pride in your work.
I have been undercut by foreigners a couple of times. Thats no problem, I get over it and move onto pricing my next job. If you can't compete with another contractors quote, then whats the point of getting involved in a pricewar and complaining you arent being paid enough if you win the contract? It's an employers and buyers market at the moment and some people seem to forget that. I don't think employers really give a sh!t who does the work, just as long as it is done on time, on budget, and is up to to an acceptable standard of workmanship.
It's a two way game, I could also go to another EU state and legally work in their country and have the same work rights and benefits as the indigenous population. (with better weather than the UK no doubt)

It got me thinking. This could be a very good topic.

I can understand why some tradesmen have strong resentment and opinions.
However, constructive criticism is encouraged here.
Just as long as the thread is in English and can be discussed like grown ups.......

im not a racist but I would like to see more action from the UKgov to protect more UK jobs for UK citizens. Until then if it ever happens, its every man for himself and survival of the fittest.

I have worked all over Europe on small contracts and realise we are all nomads in building game. We go where the work is.

I'm pissed with a lot of things that dont work properly in this country. I should have a right to earn a fair salary on the job I work at to pay my bills and support my family by feeding us and keeping a roof over our heads. Everyones running around robbing Peter to pay Paul, the economys up the creek without a paddle and the immigrants will always get the blame for stealing our jobs whether its true or not. Look out your history books folks, civil unrest is inevitable and this is a recipe for disaster.

Construction companies dont care who they hire. The motto of the moment on new build is "Much cheapness = Shite quality".

I hate this country so much, I really hope there is civil unrest. As soon as my kids are self sufficient, I'm gone.

If I could get set up in business in another country, preferably Australia, I would leave tonight. Lots of people are looking for a way out, but there's so much paperwork, waiting time and money to be spent before any possible emigration I'm afraid.

I suppose I could apply for citizenship as a British refugee.

I'm not responsible for the British empire, and neither are my parents or grandparents.
