Any of you guys advertised their business on
I registered today as things a bit quiet but hadn't even completed registration when I got a dodgy call from some scouser quoting my company name exactly as advertised on site. "So, whats a taper,la? blah blah "i'm from the Police Initiaive" blah blah "For a small donation we could advertise your business in our magazine"
    WTF? I just hung up
Anyone got experience of this 'scam'?

I've used directories such as freeindex and hotfrog for over 3 years, and never had a call and referalls to my website from theirs are just as rare.

You're right about the Police Initiative, it is a scam. Also watch out for chancers claiming to represent local councils, charities, Google, SEO companies, the European City Guide, people trying to sell you your own web domain your already own at heavily inflated prices, introductory letters formatted to look like an official invoices, and so on. Once your number, website and email address become public domain its impossible to stop the deluge.

I get a minimal of one a day mate and try to have fun at their expense. The mail that comes through my letterbox from these people gets filled with sand or dog poop and sent straight back with no stamp!
