Default Suspect enquiries and imaginary jobs

I've had 3 enquiries from last Monday via email and telephone asking for taping rates. All of them failed to provide any evidence that a job actually exists so I'm presuming they're not making legitimate investigations, and must be rival competitors looking to undercut prices.

What type of numbskull would expect someone to make a commitment on the phone?

Is anyone else plagued with calls from shady characters and time wasters? I don't mean, and advertising companies claiming to represent google either, so we can leave that for another topic.
