Default VAT threshold hike to 100k

There is currently a petition here at the 10 Downing St website to have the mandatory registration for VAT threshold raised from 67k to 100k turnover per year. The chancellors budget has still to be announced and will no doubt be raised a little, but is this too much of a hike?

It may be an incentive to those floating just under the 67K mark who stay below the threshold intentionally to avoid adding VAT onto their prices in an already over competitive marketplace.

Would this make any difference to your business and the economy in general?

Just my tuppence worth, whats yours?

I went VAT registered voluntarily initially. If you feel that being registered would benefit your business then you can register. I rarely do private work so don't need to worry about Joe Public not accepting my price because of the extra 15%. I'd rather not work for Joe Public, as most of them are C**ts anyway.
