Default Just when you thought things were

...beginning to get back on track again, this happens.

A letter appears from USG to its US customers highlighting a price rise from January 1st in 2012.

This is sure to be heading to the UK as well, and rumours from contractors in the US are that they have been told to expect a 35% increase in everything from the major gypsum companies, not just USG.

Lets hope they were misinformed otherwise we could all be in for a bumpy ride.

Things have to bottom out eventually, the price of material is criminal as it is without looking forward to the new year with another kick in the stones.

I though the bottom would be, or was in 2009 and kept chucking savings at it. The playing field is far from fair or stable and hyper inflation is headed our way because the bankers (who appear to be in line for another state handout) and economists think printing money will help (or maybe win them another election). Why would I be jailed if I tried this on my HP Officejet then?

Like you said, just another boot in the balls for the working man and I'm glad I bailed out while I had a choice, otherwise I couldn't have survived another year.

Anyone from a UK company willing to confirm or deny?

Default No Increase From Sheetrock Direct & Belmore

    Hi All

Interesting Read from across the pond, only thing i can put it down to is that they had no significant increase since 2008 and have had to carry increased production and fuel costs until they just can't make it work any longer.

Now the good news!! The UK leg of USG has no plans for an increase at the start of the year (not saying there won't be an increase in 2012) but it makes no sense as you all say to bump prices just because that's the 'trend' of most major suppliers of every building product.

I totally understand thesituation you guys are in as i have mentioned before Belmore are lucky to have been a syupplier and drywall contractor for the past 30+ years, only recently we have had to slim down our contracting operation but not due to lack of work just lack of time and staff.

Now forgive me here if i sound like im making excuses for the big manufacturers you mention, but over the pond they have a problem, speaking to colleagues over there it seems that there are alot of idiot contractors totally slamming prices to ground and using cheap prducts to do this, cutting down the material price and in turn leaving a pretty naff finish. All i can imagine the big guns in the supply industry are trying to do is force the main builders to accept an increase. the one thing i have noticed over the past 3-4 years is that the big house builders in the uk and europe dont really seem to be making that much of a loss compared to the subbie, houses are still selling all be it in lower numbers but still selling.

The big house builders need to realise that all the way down the line from the subbie to the supplier we all need to get our prices up! (ahhh dreming again sorry)

    Rant over;

as i mentioned no increase from USG UK and sheetrock direct (Belmore) so be happy to quote anyone for prices and happy to look at opening trade accounts for those that qualify - get in touch if interested

    Have a nice day y'all (a 35% better day)

    JUST TO ADD:
I have the New 2012 BG prices in front of me looks like a 5-8% increase for BG jointing materials (ouch)

I switched to Wonder Text and LaFrage when I'm supplying because it's much cheaper. Also when you get used to it, it's just as good!

Wondertex Flex tape is better than BG's offerings these days and still less than a tenner a box. I got a sales call from a Blackburn merchant this morning who stocked that brand and took note of his prices.

PS. There will be an emailed copy of the 35% quote from Facebook I found yesterday. My house PC's motherboard and processor fried at teatime so will upload tomorrow morning just to show I never thought of a number and doubled it.

5% is still a bigger hike than any wage increase Marcus, lets hope they keep it low.

It seems there is no smoke without fire after all. Hold tight for 2012, the US distributors really do plan a 35% hike.
