    Default Anyone notice???

Hello, anyone notice the change made by gyproc on their joint filler??? down from 90 mintutes to 60?? with a working time of only 45 minutes then its pretty much unusable through being too scratchy, i was caught out with this unannounced change as i use joint filler in my pump and 7" box to bed in my flat tapes which us tapers in the highlands use fiba on main joints...you can guess what happened!

Even to do a house with say 6 boxs metal corner tape has now become a total pain as i would be able to make up a full bag then stick on 2 boxs of metal....not now! im down to half a bag lots more mixing involved.

I have been in touch with gyproc as i hate to see a damn good product get interfered with and made crap (like there metal tape with silver painted on to look like 2 strips of metal), although no one at BG can say when or why its being changed, all major building suppliers websites still show the 90 minute setting time.

Would really like some feedback as i have seen a lot of you guys use this product.

    TY in advance Robin

Hi Robin and welcome to the site. Like you I've hunted for a 60 minute joint filler and cant find one either. Is there a possibility it may just be a bad batch that has become 'winded'?

hi HT,just had some, hoping its a bad batch, thought it was the supplier my subby uses keeping it in damp conditions as the velvets a darker colour as well,as you say total pain in arse having to cut down the amount mixed.

Me too!I got caught out as I mix 2 buckets at a time when coating up fiba so it went to sh!t after an hour. Like you I'm disapponted they've chosen to mess with it.

About 12 months ago there was a batch of lafarge filler, well in date, going off in about half hour. Is this the same thing or does it now say 60 min setting time on the bags....?

hi,no it says 90 min,but i thought it was supplier keeping it in damp conditions as velvet was darker than usual, but after hearing other guys having same problem im not so sure.thats why im wondering about use by dates, maybe all from same batch.

Had a right bad batch of fast set from gypsum a few weeks a go, all dated 1/04/2013. Going of in under half an hour and not mixing properly.

im wondering if im doing bg a disservice, got some today and its fine and velvets normal colour, was from different branch, but because my velvet looked as if damp had got to it,i think it was supplier as far as my stuff was concerned, but will be interesting to see what happens down the line.

Sanded some of the darker colour velvet today. Seemed to sand easier than the normal velvet.

Thanks for the reponses guys, seems me and my mate were right something wasnt right about the filler, i have used joint filler again this week and been able to use it for the full hour and a half...even with the 60 minute set time now on the bags instead of 90 minutes, so our thoughts have got to be..A, bad batch B, they are fing about with the formula to make "savings"

I have been in touch and waiting for the rep to get back to me with a full explaination of what is going on, will let you lads no soon as i know more
