Becoming a Gang Leader
Hi, I have just been asked to take on responsibility of becoming a gang leader. I am happy to do this and working out what my obligations would be under CIS and it would also mean I have to start dealing with VAT. My main query is how to deal with fuel and nights away with other members of the team. We currently just split everything % wise earnings and cost but wont be able to do this as I will need all receipts for VAT. What does everyone else do?

Good question.
I had to do this as I found the work and bankrolled it all until payday. I split the remains by % after I had been paid and taxed because if you make the mistake of splitting it evenly before then, I can guarantee they will all make more than you do. It grated one of the guys I worked with, but that's just tough as I worked longer hours, had the responsibility of paperwork and carried the financial risk. I paid them as subbies and had to tax them again through the CIS scheme.Your messages are really important to us
...but not important enough to employ a sufficient number of support staff to answer them.
