    BRAND- British Gypsum Joint Filler
REASON FOR USING- Supplied. Best on the market. East to mix, easy to apply. Sets when it says it will.
    LIKE OR DISLIKE- Like!!!

    BRAND- Knauf Joint Filler
REASON FOR USING- Persimmon specify it
LIKE OR DISLIKE- To say I DISLIKE it probably flatters it. This is the worst jointing compound on the market- EVER.Starts to set in the bucket after 10 minutes, goes like jelly and falls off your hawk. If you run your trowel over it ,it 'drags' . Says its a 90 min set, but its unusable after about 20 minutes, but doesnt dry for almost 2 and a half hours., UTTER SHITE.

well i am surprised would seem every one is agreeing... i dont think much of any standard filler when it comes to in a day two coat method. i prefer a hybrid filler finish... if i was three coating would use knauf bonding for base then 2 jc coats... the best product on the market for low shrinkage is usg easy sand shame its 8kg bags and fish eyes so much... areo moose. fix that and would use all day long for first coat at least.

    Thanks

Been lurking these forums for a while just never got round to signing up. After seeing I had the chance to voice an opinion on Knauf filler I just couldn't resist.

Good thread, I agree with BG Joint Filler being the best. I do my best to avoid using anything else.

A thread on the same lines for finishing compound would be good. I'm getting a bit pissed off with how hard Joint Cement is becoming to sand. It used to be ok if you caught it early, but I'm finding that even the following day I'm going through sanding disks like crazy. I'm sure it never used to be that bad? I used 8 disks to sand a 3 bed on saturday. I'm sure I used to use less than half that.

8 Disks?! Holy Shit. I used 1 disk to sand a 3 story and it just about managed it! Sander was struggling on the top floor, but checked walls and ceilings over with my hands and it was fine.Took a lot longer though obviously. I'll use two in future which will do it no problem.

Are you using BG Quicksand joint cement? Why they make a joint cement which isn't quicksand I'll never know.

I use the 100 grit red disks from Belmores with my sander on just above medium power.

Pop up to Minsters in Truro and get yourself some G-Tec Smartmix Extra. 13.72 plus vat a tub ans sands nice. I gave up on powder cement a long time ago.

Cheers Tony, I did ask them what else they had the other day and they mentioned that stuff. I was weary about going down the ready mix route though. Will give it a try next time!
