health and Safety nazi's
Had my invoice through the mail yesterday fro the company I have been working for and in with it was a copy of a letter they received from David Wilson Homes, it states.... shorts are banned on ALL of their sites with only long trousers permitted and also upper body must be covered with a t-shirt and hi-viz minimum!
Ok in the winter but looks like I wont be setting foot on any of their sites between April and November (usual time i'm in shorts)
Wonder how long it will be before they ban us from using a sharp trowel"YOUR PRIUS JUST SAVED ALL THE PETROL MY MUSTANG USED!"

Me & Jase are on a BAM site and I turned up in shorts the first day to be asked if I had any long trousers with me. I'm like you Steve, in shorts from March to November.

Yep, total joke! Implemented from August 1st, forgot to add (just re-read the letter) Mobile phones may only be used in the site compound or designated areas as indicated on the traffic management plan, NO mobile phone calls will be permitted within the build area!
Please carry out toolbox talks and inform all your operatives of this new requirement. We appreciate there will be an adjustment period to this new requirement but ultimately your operatives will be removed from our developments if they do not comply.
I can see (hopefully) that a lot of guys on site will just tell them to piss off and they will struggle to get the labour, I don't have kids but i still want to know asap if my partner has been taken ill or anything serious!!"YOUR PRIUS JUST SAVED ALL THE PETROL MY MUSTANG USED!"

The worst for me has been doing some industrial units. Boiling hot summer day, goggles and hard hat on all day even indoors. Only thing above my head was a boarded ceiling with hundreds of screws in.
They wanted goggles on when sanding, sand one corner internal with a block cube and you go blind due to the goggles covered in dust.
As long as their arse is covered in case of any accident claims that's literally all they care about.

Still the best tool for the job in my opinion. Its lightweight, can be kicked along the floor, automatically removing any dried snots, both hands are always free and it doubles up as a seat. A workmate broke his leg a week after being forced to trade in his milk crate for safety platforms, figure that out safety people.
