stilts on site
Just got myself a pair of stilts but have heard I might not be able to use them as most house builders have banned them. Any truth in this? Also read about the possibility of a training course in the use of them?

I think it's one you'll have to ask each agent of the sites you go on. Some will have a heart attack at the mere mention of stilts, whereas others may be fine as long as you're competent on them and it's mentioned in your Method Statement.
Would love to try them though!

I have only once been told no stilts. As for training none is required just put them on and walk round the walls I walked round my van on the drive till I got used to them. Now they are like putting another pair of boots on. Just remember to do the calf straps up first and undo them last.

I've used them for years now and most sites don't mind as long as your risk assessment and method statement are filled in! and your competent! whenever I put them on though you get know it all's coming up telling you they're banned so I asked a hse inspector that came to site and he said they have the same ruling on them as step ladders, they aren't banned!!! its individual companies that are saying they are banned, like carillion and creating nightmares on jobs where you have to use ridiculous podiums!!
