good crack
Looking for a bit of help. I have taped a new house and all was fine, sanded it, then first coated ceilings and walls. Cracks on the ceiling in one room appeared right down the tapered edge. The ceiling is about 20 sheets. Re taped it with scrim it cracked again then tried paper tape it looked ok. But more have started to appear in the far end of the house which is 20 meters away. I have been told there could be air in the mix or to much water but it was different batches mixed.

Sounds like the ceiling is on the move to me. Were there enough screws in the boards? Were the joists nogged at the board edges?

The joists were nogged. Even phoned up the company where the materials came from and they weren't sure. They need to send someone to take a look. They ruled out something wrong with the mix. Trying to get the joiner to solve it but he is just wanting to do the cracks that are there and expecting me to come back every time it happens.

Was the joists damp or wet when fixed. When they dry out there will be movement. Why blame the taper all the time get me. Was the house built on clay, was the correct foundations used, is the brickwork all o.k. is damp getting in. could be anything. Thats what the structual engineer is supposed to know. ALAN

I have taped hundreds of houses and never seen it. Asked plenty of tradesmen and they have all asked about moisture or dampness. I thought that this is the problem myself. They told me to pva a paper tape on over the cracks and then flush them off to see if it will work. The joiner is moving in next week so there isnt enough time to have someone take a look at it. Doing my head in. I cant keep going back if it keeps happening.
